The view before the crowds; we arrived early to make sure we had a good seat!
Statue in the Square
View of St. Peter's from our seats (in a reserved section for newlyweds)
Vince and I waiting for the Pope
Wow
Waiting for the blessing
OMG! All the newlyweds got to line up and meet the Pope!!!
Blessed! It was SOO hot in our nice clothes; we high-tailed
it back to our hotel to change before our next food tour with Katie :)
This time we started in the Jewish Ghetto neighborhood
(a remenant of World War II); our first stop was a bakery
My favorite? This rich bread with cinnamon and raisins- mmm
From there we visited a craft brewery called Open Baladin
The house-made kettle chips (dangerously good)
Our next stop was Roscioli- a famed deli and restaurant
Just like what I had previously seen on TV :)
I had to try anchiovies and the herbed butter; with bread; a little
salty, but not bad ;) When in Rome, you've got to try the local stuff!
Next stop: our second gelato of the trip; this place had some
fresh mint gelato and a dark chocolate gelato that were awesome!
A parting photo with Katie :)
Vince and I spent a good part of the afternoon just taking things in...
Part of one of my favorite bridges in Rome: Ponte Sant'Angelo
A nasoni- one of the many fountains in Rome that provide clean
drinking water; these date back to Roman times (and they still work!)
MUCH later, we eventually worked up an appetite,
so we headed to Bonci for some Roman-style pizza
Paired with local beer of course!
Pizza with proscuitto, arugula, and tomatoes
Mushroom/sausage pizza and potato pizza-
great ending to a pretty fantastic day :)
